At the Route 66 Raceway, home of the NHRA Gerber Collision & Glass Route 66 Nationals drag races, students from three local colleges that included Waubonsee Community College, Moraine Valley Community College, and Milwaukee Area Technical College. The colleges will take part in a special Mopar Career Automotive Program (CAP) career networking event. Mopar CAP collaborates with 100 universities and technical colleges around the country to provide a program that prepares students for a range of careers in the automotive sector.
By implementing the Mopar CAP curriculum, educational institutions enable students to pursue a career in automotives and help them acquire the skills and foundational knowledge required to work with some of the most popular brands in the business, including Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep®, Ram, FIAT, and Alfa Romeo. Mopar CAP gives students a competitive edge by combining classroom learning from trained instructors with practical experience.
Students will have the chance to meet and converse with NHRA drag-racing luminaries Tony Stewart, Matt Hagan, and Leah Pruett of Tony Stewart Racing this Friday in addition to the Mopar CAP networking event. While Hagan, the reigning NHRA Mission World Funny Car Champion, will competed at Route 66 Nationals Park in the TSR Direct Connection Dodge/SRT Hellcat in an attempt to win his third Route 66 Nationals, Stewart, the former champion in NASCAR, IndyCar, and USAC competition, is making his Top Fuel racing debut this year in the TSR Direct Connection Dodge/SRT dragster.
“The Mopar CAP program is very crucial to the automotive industry,” said Stewart, a three-time NASCAR Cup winner at nearby Chicagoland Speedway. “There’s such a shortage of skilled, talented people in the workforce and the automotive industry that programs like Mopar CAP provide an opportunity for kids that want to be in this industry. It helps manufacturers and dealers have access to these students while they’re in school, so I feel like it’s a big advantage.”
A Waubonsee Community College team competed in the inaugural Mopar CAP Bracket Challenge last month at the Chrysler Group National Technical Training Center in Auburn Hills, Michigan, and made it to the finals. At the Mopar CAP leadership team meeting that took place at the Route 66 Raceway, guests had the opportunity to network with Stellantis dealers in the region who are hiring qualified people for their stores. They can also enjoy lunch and trivia in the Tony Stewart Racing hospitality area.
