Jeep Brands Joins Forces with Marathon Watch

The new Jeep x Marathon collection, which features four watches honoring each brand’s long history and valiant service for Allied Forces dating back to 1941, was proudly announced by Marathon Watch and the Jeep® brand. The joint Jeep x Marathon watches honor the tenacious nature of both businesses and pay homage to their practical styles and common military heritage. The current Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and the Willys MB were the first cars the United States used in World War II and are the two iconic cars that serve as inspiration for the series. The latest collection honors the beginnings of each company while standing as a tribute to the utilitarian design concept. The military’s “General Purpose” standard further unites the two brands.
The U.S. military gave the American company Willys-Overland a contract in 1941 to provide four-wheel-drive reconnaissance vehicles. There are many who claim that soldiers abbreviated the classification “General Purpose” to “GP,” which is where the readily pronounced name “Jeep” originated. In the meantime, Marathon Watch Company formally started producing timing devices for the Allied Forces infantry. Marathon’s current line of field watches is still labeled with the official government designation of “General Purpose,” which the company has abbreviated to just “GP.”
“We are thrilled to embark on this partnership with Jeep,” said Mitchell Wein, president of Marathon Watch Company. “It’s been a long time coming. Our new collection is all about honoring the rugged, authentic Americana spirit that both brands embody. Marathon’s legacy forged by my grandfather back in 1939 was all about crafting tough mission-ready timepieces for the Allied Forces. Now over 80 years later, we’re teaming up with the Jeep brand and highlighting our shared military heritage in a truly special endeavor.”
The Officer’s Series, which offers two 41mm field watches, has updated the original Marathon WWII-issued dial. This updated version of the classic dial features completely lumed Aged-Radium numerals, a new black dial, and text treatments modeled after the Jeep Wrangler 1941 Limited Edition. Every model has a 316L steel case that has been parkerized to increase corrosion resistance and decrease reflection. Both the quartz (SSGPQ) and hand-wound mechanical (SSGPM) versions of the set come with 12-hour and 60-minute scales. Swiss-made Sellita SW210-1, an 18-jewel mechanical movement, powers the 41mm SSGPM. The Swiss-made ETA F06.402 Heavy Drive-PreciDrivequartz movement powers the 41mm SSGPQ in the meantime. MaraGlo illumination on the Arabic hour numerals, minute hand, and hour hand ensures better visibility in low light. A brand-new, three-piece leather strap kit made of Crazy Horse leather is included with every watch.
Two recent SAR line upgrades complement the officer’s timepieces. The designs flawlessly combine aspects from each brand to create a timeless military image. Both quartz (TSAR) and self-winding automatic (GSAR) versions are available for this set. The two dials were inspired by the Jeep Wrangler 1941 Limited Edition and feature a unique “red line” indicator that has been repurposed as a 15-minute count-up (influenced by Jeep dashboard instrumentation). An iconic piece of gear for the SAR line, each watch has a large, 60-minute, 120-click unidirectional dive bezel and is 300-meter water resistant. Each clock employs a combination of MaraGlo technology and tritium gas tubes to illuminate the entire handset. The Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement in the 41mm GSAR and the Swiss-made ETA F06.412 Heavy Driver PreciDrive quartz movement in the 41mm TSAR power these watches, respectively. The two watches have engravings of the Willys star on the knurled steel crown and the seven-slot Jeep grille on the side of the 316L steel case.
“We are extremely proud of this very unique collaboration that speaks to a shared legacy of common values and legendary history in our Jeep x Marathon Officer’s and SAR watches,” said Kim Adams House, head of licensing and merchandising at Stellantis, North America. “These timepieces aren’t just to tell time – they tell a story of two brands uniting based on shared values and purposeful use for consumers, uniting ‘Jeep people’ and ‘watch people.’ Both the Jeep and Marathon brands have built sterling trustworthy reputations, so whether you’re hitting the road in a Jeep or navigating the terrain on foot, these brands can be relied upon to lead the way as true partners and companions allowing consumers to ‘go anywhere and do anything’.”
The lifestyle slogan of the Jeep brand, “Go Anywhere, Do Anything,” and all necessary technical details are engraved on the stainless-steel case backs. Each watch has a unique serial number, a personalized Jeep x Marathon signature emblem, and the words “Since 1941” to commemorate the two companies’ common military heritage. Each of the four joint timepieces is enclosed in a limited-edition tin box. The Jeep x Marathon collection is available for purchase beginning today exclusively at Marathonwatch.com.
